In 1867, the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company released the first commercially available zoetrope, priced at one guinea, meaning that it was a luxury that only the upper classes could afford. Meanwhile, model seller H. G. Clarke offered a more affordable paper model, which could be assembled with instructions or bought ready made. Clarke also sold 108 different designs of strips for the zoetrope as well as base discs.
