Pam on Instagram: "Here’s my latest make - the @sewoveritlondon #soirubyskirt. The pattern is free when you sign up to their newsletter. I love that the waistband is flat across the front and elasticised at the back, making it more flattering. I sewed it in this magenta-coloured @atelierbrunette linen viscose from @maaidesign. I had the drapey fabric ear-marked for a top, but changed my mind to make a skirt. I didn’t have enough fabric so I needed to shorten the length by about 10 cm (lucky I’m short), and I omitted the patch pockets. I must admit, I love not having any fabric scraps at the end of a project. Bethan T on Instagram: "Now this skirt has arrived with its recipient I can share some details. This was my main make at April's #SewBeds, but it's been promised since the beginning of January when I told @tabithakdoey I owed her one fabulous handmade garment for her birthday. It took a while to settle on the garment type and then longer to find the perfect fabric, but I think it ended up as a really lovely combination. I put some fun details into this make - recycled plastic buttons, fun labels and an adjustable waist feature which I achieved by using buttonhole elastic through the back of the skirt (swipe for details). The pattern was straightforward to sew, and the fabric is simply beautiful. Sadly it's now sold out otherwise I'd be very tempted to order some for myself. This make

Natalia on Instagram: "I present you my very first me-made skirt. 🤗 I’ve had this lovely viscose in my little fabric stash since summer and couldn’t really decide what I wanted to make out of it. I knew I could take a bit of risk as it was a decent length (2.5m), and @sewoveritlondon’s free skirt pattern just seemed perfect for this little challenge. So here we are: I made my first pockets, used interfacing, made my very first buttonholes. And it all worked out! Following the size guide I went for size 14 but at the end I had to shorten the elastic as the waist was too wide (hips are 👌🏻). I upcycle and refashion quite a bit so was in my absolute element here ♻️ Swipe, and you’ll see the original incarnation - it was a Wiksten shift dress and I barely wore it. Why? Firstly, it felt too heavy, physically, for a dress. And, since I had my colours done back in January and discovered that I’m a winter, after a lifetime of wearing autumnal tones (😂🙄), I just didn’t feel right with these warm colours next to my face. I made a mistake when cutting so the back panel was cut in two pieces against the grain instead of on the fold but it still fits great, the pattern was nice to sew and I’d like another one in a viscose or similar fabric. I had to make one for myself after making one for my youngest. I even used the same fabric, a bamboo cotton jersey from @brightonaccessorieshouse. I’ve been wanting to make this skirt for a while. It’s a free pattern from @sewoveritlondon when you subscribe to their newsletter. Flat front, buttons down the CF, and most importantly, elastic in the back waistband. I removed quite a bit of length because I seem to be significantly shorter than what this skirt is drafted for, so maybe 3 or 4”. Bianca on Instagram: "Now that this has been in my wardrobe for a couple of weeks, I definitely need to make myself more of these floaty skirts!😍 I can't believe I haven't used more viscose fabrics in my #memadewardrobe!🤯 I made a few little adjustments to this pattern for a couple of reasons: 1. I didn't have a 2 inch elastic in my stash for the waistband. 2. I didn't quite like where the skirt hem would have been on my legs. Sizing/adjustments made: - size 10 which is one size smaller than my waist measurement; - cut elastic for size 10, but will cut a size 12 next time as it is a little tight, but still comfortable to wear; - lengthened skirt by 2 inches; - cut 2 inches lengthwise from the waistband to accomodate for 1 inch wide elastic. Since Christmas I have been trying to cut down my spend on sewing and any waste. This is the ruby skirt pattern from @sewoveritlondon made with some needle cord I had left over from a pinafore with the @fridaypatterncompany bateau top in some viscose jersey I had. I know these will become wardrobe staples, especially the top. I am firmly in the ‘there’s no such thing as too many striped tops’ camp. I’ve made several versions of the ruby before and will make more, this is my first bateau top and there will possibly be more although I don’t love the pattern instructions. I should say this is a

I made the @sewoveritlondon #soirubyskirt which is a free pattern you can download by looking in the Sew Over It website. I made my version in a size 12 and just reduced the length slightly as I prefer it to be a bit shorter. It’s sewn up in a cotton lawn fabric from @merrymaidfabrics I bought a couple of months ago. It’s a beautiful fabric, I think it looks a bit like a liberty print although it’s not. I’d recommend this pattern as this is the 3rd time I’ve used it.
