Our Nomi Dress sewing pattern hacked to be sleeveless!
Kam on Instagram: "Last week, during Minerva's 25th birthday celebrations, they released the Minerva Exclusive crush velvet. I was unable to attend the celebrations (and got serious FOMO seeing all the photos and videos), but I made the most of it by sewing up my newest dress. The crush velvet, which comes in a variety of Minerva Exclusive designs, is oh-so-amazing. I opted for the gorgeous Crystal Chrysanthemums print and made my tried and tested pattern, the Nomi dress by Sew Over It. This has to be one of the nicest velvets I've sewn with. I made the Nomi dress in a straight size 10 with no modifications apart from reducing the sleeve length to make them 3/4 length. The crush velvet was gifted to me as a Minerva Brand Ambassador in exchange for a review. I love the pattern and fabric and I’ve just ordered some jersey from Poundfabrics to make another! I didn’t make any adjustments but I will make the bodice slightly longer next time as I have a long trunk!! I tried the method suggested for sewing the elastic in but made a mess of it. So I ended up sewing a channel in the skirt before sewing the top and skirt together. It came out really long on me, and I had to cut about 4” off so I’ll shorten the bottom skirt piece next time. Sarah on Instagram: "I finished this dress on Monday and have already enjoyed swooshing about in it. Styled with a RTW cardigan that I think was a hand-me-down from my Grandma, of all people, about 10 years ago (clearly very stylish! 😂) Pattern: @sewoveritlondon Nomi dress in a size 10. The only alterations I made were to shorten the bottom tier by 2.5" and do a deeper hem (as I'm short!), and omit the elastic at the waist (partly because I was feeling a bit lazy but also because I don't think this version needs it). Fabric: a viscose jersey from @rainbowfabrickilburn. I bought 3m in the Boxing Day sale and still have some left over (hopefully enough for a t-shirt at least), so didn't need as much fabric as the pattern suggests, which is always a bonus! This fabric is so soft and comfy,
