February can be SUCH a strange month. Freezing cold, wet, and graced with occasional gorgeous blue sky for periods also. In this morning's Growing Up Podcast, we are joined by Shannon AKA Diary of a Lady Gardener to talk you through essential gardening jobs for Spring. Really hope you enjoy this, it's a great listen!
How LUSH does this Herbal Tea Collection from 2023 look? Anyone else feel like having a herbal tea this morning?
Here's the truth, food brings people together doesn't it? Over the last decade of growing foodie herb plants, we've been so lucky to make so many connections over the years, have amazing chats, and also eat some AMAZING food. We are super pumped up, for the 2024 season. The list of varieties we will be making available this year is quite simply unbelievable. WE are excited!
Each year we sell collections of herb plants, the Boozy herb Collection, The Salad Herb Collection, The Herbal Tea Collection and the Herbs for Bees Collection are always incredibly popular. Which NEW collections would you enjoy seeing in our shop this year?
How gorgeous does this Orange Mint look? This is one of our favourite 'fun and fruity' varieties that we love to sell, grow and promote here at Urban Herbs. It really does have the lovely distinctive aroma of orange within its lush foliage. Like most varieties of mint - Orange Mint really doesn't need too much encouragement to grow!
If plants were a drug.....
"If plants were a drug that you could give to people, that helps to reduce levels of stress hormones, helps improve feelings of self-worth, helps improve exercise performance, helps improve memory, concentration, and that it did all of these things with the only side effect was that your house looked a bit nicer?" This is a short excerpt from this week's Growing Up Podcast. Check out this podcast which features the amazing James Wong who speaks so much truth about growing things.
Building polytunnel door from scratch.... DIY Autumn garden days
Autumn days be like...... Doing all the winter jobs, the jobs that we put off all year. Like building this polytunnel door from scratch.
New Cover for our polytunnel
Just over a year ago, we were adding a new cover to the polytunnel that so many of you have seen in pictures, watched us film within, and shared the excitement of spring within together. This was one of the longest days ever, shown in under seven seconds here. Who else loves a good polytunnel-covering video?
How did this happen?
We are feeling quite emotional today. Someone messaged us yesterday to let us know that our podcast is ranking SEVENTH in UK Home and Garden Podcasts alongside some huge podcasts that we love listening to. We set up this podcast simply because we loved spending time with each other, having a giggle, and talking about growing. It's a labour of love and to have this accolade alongside the many beautiful reviews that people have left for us is just amazing.
Lime Mint
Have you grown Lime Mint? This variety really is special.
You CAN grow things
Such an important message. YOU can grow things. It will make you feel amazing. We promise.
Foodies should be very excited about Mushroom plant. The leaves contain a distinctive, 'earthy' Mushroom flavour within them. This is perfect for those who like Mushroom flavour but are less keen on the texture. We are foodies and we are absolutely loving the flavour of hyssop. The actual flavour is hard to describe. It's minty with a hint of pepper. This is a flavour perfect for adding as a seasoning to meat dishes but we truly LOVE Hyssop once the weather grows colder and the slow cooker returns to the centre of our home. Midsummer in the polytunnel
At 4pm today we will be posting the video in which we list our favourite five herbs of 2020. The picture this morning shows the late summer evening that we attempted to initially film that video - an evening in which Mr Urban Herbs constantly kept changing his mind.
Blue sky thinking
There is always a moment during summer when you suddenly notice that the skies are blue, you are wearing shorts and you don't remember the last time that sunglasses weren't on top of your head. This picture shows THAT moment.
