Vegan Brunch - The Gallery Café. This welcoming café in Bethnal Green is relaxed and a bit rough round the edges in a good way. The ‘signature’ – sourdough toast with tofu scramble, spinach and garlic mushrooms – is the one to order, but if it's sold out (as it regularly does) the ‘lighter breakfast’ does a similar job – swap spinach for tomatoes. Brunch is served until 3pm weekends.

Vegan - Nama, Notting Hill. Expensive. All raw, minutes from Portobello Road. Very good reviews.

Vegan Tanya’s Café, Chelsea. Could be mistaken for a fashionable restaurant in the south of France with its glass roof, plant-lined walls and general greenhouse feel. All-raw and vegan dishes include ‘rawtella un-toast’ – raisin bread, cacao hazelnut spread and coconut yoghurt – and ‘avo un-toast’, soft onion bread with avocado and pepper. Expensive though.

Vegan - Black Cat Café, Hackney. This one is a properly Bohemian, Morrissey-playing, not-for-profit cooperative; 100% vegan. Tofu scramble, Redwoods bacon, Vegusto sausage, beans, mushrooms, fried potatoes and your choice of toast or pancake.

Vegan - Max Brasserie, Covent Garden. Sautéed spinach, field mushrooms, chilli beans and crispy tofu – helped along by fresh apple and spinach juice, a couple of glasses of Prosecco and some excellent service.
