Rodney Strong Vineyards, California, USA

Rodney Strong Vineyards was established in 1959 by the eponymous dancer. In 1989 it was bought by Tom Klein, who had first encountered the winery as a project whilst a San Francisco-based management consultant. He returned to his family’s agricultural company, travelled extensively and researched the wine industry in many parts of the world, all the while developing his palate and his passion for wine. The circle was completed with the purchase of the winery.

Rodney Strong Vineyards California Chardonnay 2020
Rodney Strong Vineyards Sonoma County Chardonnay 2011. The west and southwestern regions of Sonoma County are ideal for growing chardonnay grapes. The cool maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean arriving reliably in the form of fog each summer evening maintains the bright natural acidity, while warm summer afternoons ensure ripe fruit character. Bright lemon and apple aromas mingle with hints of toasty barrel complexity. On the palate, pear and pineapple with spice and refreshing acidity.

Rodney Strong Vineyards Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Rodney Strong Vineyards Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2010. The cool, foggy nights that regularly enshroud the winery, though crucial for fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, are not ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. For that, you have to look to the Alexander Valley, where the days are warmer and the influence of the cool Pacific Ocean diminished. Blackberry, cocoa, and currant lead to a rich, layered mouthfeel, replete with black cherry, cedar, and cassis, structured with lush tannins.

Rodney Strong Vineyards Estate Sauvignon Blanc Charlotte's Home 2017
Rodney Strong Vineyards Estate Sauvignon Blanc Charlotte's Home 2011. Rod Strong established this heritage Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in 1971, naming it Charlotte’s Home in honour of his wife. That vineyard remains the core of the winery’s Charlotte’s Home Sauvignon Blanc, along with other select estate vineyards in the Alexander Valley as well as the Russian River Valley. Light, crisp, and highly aromatic with ripe pear and melon character, citrus, mineral, and traditional herbaceous qualities.

Rodney Strong Vineyards Chalk Hill Chardonnay 2019
Rodney Strong Vineyards Chalk Hill Chardonnay 2011. Strong was the first to plant Chardonnay in what would later be recognized as the Chalk Hill American Viticultural Area (AVA). He recognized the region as distinct from the rest of Russian River Valley for its unique chalky white soils. Encouraging secondary fermentation adds additional complexity, and in the glass the wine is both creamy and crisp, with ripe apple, Meyer lemon, wet stone, and spiced vanilla flavours.
