I’m muting all my content in solidarity with the black lives matter movement until June 7 to make space for the voices of black, indigenous and people of colour and to mute the white privileged voice that I possess and benefit from. I understand this is a time to pause and listen to the voices who are needed most right now. I’m sorry it took so long for me to look outside my own bubble and pay attention. I’m using this time to listen, read, watch, ask myself how I can do better to be an ally i

New(ish) moon Sunday night, the kinda scene you leave dinner on the stove for and hurry outside to see. Our house has a rush hour every evening of locals on their nightly passeggiata (walk) after dinner. They walk past our usually-open window looking out to this view, we all say « ciao/buonasera ». I gawked at this night sky together with these passing walkers on Sunday evening :), « che bello! » we said. Tiny town life is good 🌠 #thetravellinglight #marche #italy #chebello #newmoon #moonlight
Scooter happiness 🛵😄 Life feels better and better as restrictions continue to lift in Italy. Soon (from 29 March I think, from my crude-at-best translations of the local news) we’ll be able to start the summer and lie on the beach, swim in the sea. Since last Monday, we’ve been able to eat in restaurants and drink in bars (got a little overexcited with the Negronis last Wednesday night), go shopping for things we couldn’t buy since early March, keeping a distance always. But now also feels li
Souvenirs, Marche, Italy B.C. (before covid-19) 🙏🏻 Italy will open its borders again from June 3 and we can travel freely between regions in Italy from this date too! Until then, leaving the house without having to fill out a form, worrying the police will pull you over to check said form is a dream 🤗. Everyone seems to be respecting social distancing pretty well from the outing I took yesterday...we sat down to eat in a real restaurant for lunch 🥰 Will you visit Italy this summer or are yo
First weekend adventuring outside home for two months ❤️. Having your freedom restricted so much definitely makes you appreciate every experience so much more when you get that freedom back, right? The magic of every little discovery and wide, open vista on this long, wandering hike in the mountains around our town was intensified. We learned from our neighbour how to spot and hunt wild asparagus too so @filippocarbonari shimmied up a few hillsides to pick some for dinner. Whilst we only ended
Arriving home from another long walk in the mountains around the town ✨ fiore di sambuco/elderflowers in hand... Apparently it’s easy to make elderflower syrup fermenting these in water, sugar and lemon, have to try, thanks for the 🔥 tip @elyss.t. Tell me your elderflower recipes if you have any!! Pics and videos up on Stories now if you fancy a virtual walk in the countryside with me 🌈 #thetravellinglight #findthelight #marche #italy #elderflower #fiore
New article up at www.thetravellinglight.com on connecting to your brand as a freelancer, entrepreneur or creative. A lot of people are finding they have more time to work on building their own business/creative project during this pandemic. But where to start? Usually with figuring out what this thing is, by figuring out your brand. We created a free workbook for download over at @beamyourlightplease so you can create your own brand manifesto and easily connect to the unique light of your br

Today, phase 2 of lockdown begins in Italy and we can go out (and take a few photos along the way?!) a *little* more beyond our front doors and essential tasks like buying food. First on the agenda: going for a loooong walk in these hills I’ve been staring at longingly for weeks 🤗 We live right in the middle of this 955-person town and I’ve noticed it coming alive, people coming out of their homes more and more in the last week or so, masks on. When this all began, you could feel the collecti
A few years ago, me and @freyaugust spent some time in traveller hub Taghazout in Morroco. We’d just finished a photography/videography job in Marrakech and decided to take a long bus ride South to Taghazout to set up our 'office' for a week in the hippie surf town. We envisioned working during the days from our laptops, and enjoying the beach, the food and the vibe of the town around that. What we found when we got there was all these things and more. Head to the link in my bio for more on ho
Over the Christmas winter holidays a few years ago while I was living in Paris, a few of us @josypark @juanzero @trappenberg found ourselves stranded, orphaned and a little alone in the city while all our friends went home to visit their families across France and the world. We decided to band together over one common goal: to visit and photograph Paris’ most beautiful metro stations. Hiding beneath the city, often going unnoticed by rushing commuters, left unappreciated by tourists anxious to
New story, new website! You might remember these thermal springs I visited a while ago in Tuscany - Bagni San Filippo. Story up now at the new www.thetravellinglight.com! They’re known for their healing powers, thermal springs like these, but Bagni San Filippo is known for this glacier-looking sculpture known as the white whale. People drive from all over just to perch here with the 48°C water falling down their backs, staring out at the forest before them, in awe of nature's creativity and de
NEW WEBSITE ✨ Hello you 👋. I’d been casually working on a website upgrade before this pandemic struck and now have had the time locked inside to finish it off. It’s more of a refresh than a new site but it was time for a change of energy… The Travelling Light started as a travel blog and has inevitably morphed into something else. Travel is the lens through which we explore life, ourselves, other people, our changing world and discover all the infinite possibilities open to us. Expect from n
THE GREAT SLOWDOWN | I can’t help but notice the switch that’s happened, we’ve gone from abundance of money and shortage of time, to abundance of time and shortage of money, with an impending global recession the likes of which we’ve not seen since The Great Depression - The Great Shutdown I’ve heard it called - weighing heavy on us. If opportunities to work and make money are less now and in the foreseeable near future, we may continue to find ourselves with time on our hands and less money in
