The Little Red Devil, Stonegate, York. Stonegate was once the centre of York's burgeoning printing industry. York's first printer came here in 1480. The Red Devil is the traditional sign for a printer's shop. A printer's devil was an apprentice in a printing establishment. According to local folklore it is unlucky to look this little devil in the eyes.
