By 1694, there were around 1,200 hackney coaches on the London's streets. However, cab design was constantly evolving. The picture shows the "cabriolet" designed by Mr David Davies in 1823. The Stockton to Darlington railway line was opened in 1825 - two locomotives were used and they could pull 21 coal wagons 25 miles at 8mph. Such speed was unheard of at the time and soon the line was in profit.
