What's a challenging shape to make? For me, it's wide, shallow, bowls. I am now more practised at these - and I enjoy decorating them. With lots of coloured bands is my current preference! #reelsinstagram #wheelthrown #tableware #functionalceramics #studioceramics

I love flowering plants and gardening, but does anyone else share my difficulty in cutting enough flowers to make a bunch? My favourite vases are ones that hold just a stem or two. These Ikebana pebble bowls were a limited edition that I made for @alkemistore . I was amazed at how long the single stems lasted wedged on or between the times of the kenzan (frog) that they're designed to be used with. Also the technique of throwing with inserts of coloured clay is something I liked and plan to...

I was looking at notes at the beginning of the video - the "European Product Design Award" really doesn't just trip off the tongue. I would also like to say thanks to all the recent followers, it's really heartening. If you like the Ambit collection, I'm now delivering to Europe, as opposed to UK only. Even better, if you sign up to receiving my (more or less) monthly newsletter, there are always some special offers included. You can do this on my website, or just drop me your email in a...

Who likes carrousels? I know reels tend to get more plays, but I'm quite partial to a nice static photo myself. Almost all of these vases came out of my last firing. And working through the slides to unpacking the kiln and some glazed pieces waiting to go in. These vases aren't an order, I'm just doing a bit of experimentation, fine though cylinders are, one needs a bit of variety. On the vases, are you preferring more stripes or less stripes with a coloured glaze? I'm thinking about doing...

Opening up the kiln I was slightly less stressed than usual! It's approaching the number of glaze firings after which I usually need to change the elements, but because I've lowered my firing temperature by about 10 degrees celsius or half a cone, I think the elements are wearing better. The firing went like clockwork, but it did have pretty much my whole repertoire of glazes in the firing, that's 14 of them. Some prefer slightly hotter and some, like my charcoal glaze, volatile and will cr...
