The Westminster 'halo' tiara. Made by Lacloche for the second Marquise of Westminster in 1930 to incorporate the Arcot diamonds. Designed as seven panels, the top three of which held the Arcots, the two marquise cuts flanking the central circular diamond. In total 1,421 diamonds used. Auctioned by Sotheby's on 25th June 1959 to Harry Winston, who removed the Arcots and sold them as rings, which is why the tiara is sometimes seen with three turquoise set in their place.

It’s only fitting that the first woman to sing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” should get to model one of the world’s most coveted headpieces. “I could never wear any old jewelry,” says actress Carol Channing of the Westminster Tiara, which sat atop her trademark blonde bob for the Plaza Hotel’s Hearts and Diamonds Ball in 1961.

One of the most famous Westminster tiaras hasn't been in the family collection for some decades. That is the Duchess wearing it in its original form on the left above. It was sold by the family in 1959 and purchased b...
