Originally a thriving natural area, the salt pan floor of Deadvlei in Namibia was formed naturally when the Tsauchar River flooded centuries ago, and the abundance of water allowed camel thorn trees to grow. The natural landscape and its dry cracked earth have been interpreted through 60 individual hand-shaped English oak pieces in graduating stains. The enduring classic Greek and Roman architecture, together with the pristine white stone mountains of Northern Tuscany’s Carrara Marble quarries have inspired this design. The form is split into two parts – the minimalist, matt form of marble powder Jesmonite, with a temple-like shape and an opening at its centre, and the Carrara marble section.
