From beginning to end, here is the full process painting the Bouguereau eye study compressed into 14-ish seconds. It’s as close to Bionic Woman powers as I’ll ever get 💨 #portraitpainter #kansascityartist #kcartist #contemporaryrealism #oilportraitpainting #realismtoday #oilpaintingartist #artrealism #realistpainter #oilpainting #portraitart #eyestudy #paintingprocess #paintingprogress #howtopaint #bouguereau #classicalart #favoritethings

This is all of the most recent work I’ve had on my easel over the past couple of months. Most of them are studies, but I’m starting to work on other ideas for later this year. We’ll have to see if my studies pay off 🙂 #oilpaintingoncanvas #oilportraits #oilportraitpainting #portraitpainter #portraitpaintings #portraitpainters #contemporaryrealism #classicalart #artstudies #paintingprocess #paintingprogress #kansascityartist #kcartist #kcart #representationalart #representationalpainting #r...

During my recent trip to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, I stopped by to see “Italian Woman at the Fountain,” painted by William Adolphe Bouguereau in 1869. I was looking forward to seeing it as I had painted an eye study during class with @valentineben of this painting and wanted to see how far off I was with color, accuracy, brush strokes etc. I brought my painting to the museum to compare it to the original which you can see in the photos. The reference I used was color corrected a bit t...

I completely forgot about this “extra credit” eye study after Willem Drost from a facial features class that just wrapped up a couple weeks ago. We were tasked with painting the studies in two layers and I spaced on the second layer until a couple days ago. It’s done now ✅ Long pose class starts up again in November with @valentineben so check out his website and join us. It should be a perfect slower speed project to fit in as the holidays get started. #portraitart #portraitartist #cont...
I probably spend too much time fussing with eyes, but I love to paint them. I remember when I was a kid, someone showed me how to draw an eye and it felt like magic. That’s when I became fascinated with creating portraits realistically. Unfortunately, realism was poo poo’d so I ended up doing other life stuff. But secretly, I always knew one day the magic would return. 💫 #portraitart #portraitartist #contemporaryrealism #portraitpainting #portraitpainter #realismtoday #artrealism #realis...
This eye study after Bouguereau’s, “Italian Woman at the Fountain” was an extra credit assignment in @valentineben’s facial features class I’m currently taking. The eye studies are my favorite and what’s cool about this one is that the original painting is here in Kansas City, so I’ll have to take my little study with me the next time I’m there and see if I got anywhere close to the original. I’m already preparing to be humbled in a big way. #portraitart #portraitartist #contemporaryreal...
