To address this question, we used intracranial recordings from nonprimary auditory cortex in the human superior temporal gyrus to determine what acoustic information in speech sounds can be reconstructed from population neural activity. While it's never a good idea to mess with nature, I'm happy to report that these eggs were carefully put back in the water to continue growing.

They're believed to be from a species of salamander, however, all amphibian eggs are like this.

They lay their eggs in jelly-like masses which are then kept in water to avoid drying up (if they dry up they die). The jelly protects them from predators and also helps to attract warmth to the eggs from the sun.

What's cool about salamander eggs is their unique symbiotic relationship with green algae, which lives inside the egg's jelly. The algae provides oxygen to the embryos through photosynthesis, and in return, the embryos release c

📓 In 1851, Vérany published his book “Mediterranean molluscs”, packed with stunning chromolithographs, each rendered with several layers of colors and an incredible eye for detail. As if they’re about to swim off the page.

🐙 The novelist Victor Hugo was a fan, so he copied one of Vérany’s images and used it as the cover for his novel “The Toilers of the Sea”. While Vérany described the creatures as “incapable of harm,” Hugo saw tentacles and thought “perfect villain!” And so, the poor cephalopod got its bad reputation.
