The closest comparison would be to the movie, The Bodyguard, where we remember a young, wild and “out of control” Whitney Houston, playing the role of the unlikable rockstar, who had everything and was surrounded by “yes” men/women. This new version relies on the unbearable, overzealous and out of control mother/manager (“momager” or think Joe Jackson of the Jackson 5/ Michael-Janet Jackson fame) who will and has sold her and her daughter’s soul for the fame and the bright lights.
I recently watched Blue Jasmine, starring Cate Blanchett, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Jasmine French. Born Jeanette French, Jasmine changed her name to be more upscale and exotic, to fit a more sophisticated lifestyle. Blanchett gave a strong performance of a woman who was seriously troubled and who could never recover from her husband’s infidelity.
