On this day (June 7) in 1975, Sunil Gavaskar set the first World Cup on fire, albeit for all the wrong reasons. He scored a memorable 36 not out off 174 balls after England had set a clueless India 335 to win in 60 overs. In the end, India made 132 for 3 and 'the little master' made sure he wasn't dismissed. For those who know the man, this was typical Gavaskar, proud and unbowed, no matter what.
