This beginning of the year activity is fun for the first days of school and for students. In this Back to School Getting to Know You activity students play a version of "Stop the Music" as they move around the classroom meeting and getting to know their new classmates. Students use a choice of two different question prompting cards and do a mini interview before moving on to meet other classmates. This activity is simple to use and easy to prep. Allowing students to move around to the music helps with the first day jitters and breaks the ice a bit. Includes - Directions for "Stop the Music" Activity - Activity Ground Rules - Two different Getting to Know You Cards (four cards per page) Easel Activity You can use the Getting to Know You Cards on Easel rather than printing them out. This doesn't really work very well for the "Stop the Music" activity, but it is still a great way for students to get to know each other. There are writing pages to go with the cards. Students can write about what they have learned after talking to a classmate. There is also a self-correcting matching activity in Easel. Students match the words and pictures. Student Engagement Students are actively engaged as they play the "Stop the Music" game. It is a fun and interactive way for students to get to know each other. The smiles will be a definite way of telling you that your students are enjoying themselves. This activity supports learning in the following academic areas: - Reading - Communication skills - Cooperative learning
