FIRST MISSION, by Nixon Galloway - The initial offensive air operation conducted by the U.S. Army Air Forces in the European Theatre was on 4 July 1942. The only unit in place was a light bomber squadron being tutored by the RAF, the 15th bomb Squadron. It had to borrow Douglas Bostons from the RAF, No. 226 Squadron.
