A German Fallschirmjäger rests his feet while sitting on a fallen tree. Note how well armed he is, two Panzerfausts and the deadly STG-44/MP-44. 1944. The STG-44 or MP-44, whatever, only went into mass production in 1944 and supply never came close to equaling demand. Despite their high priority most Fallschirmjäger ended up with the standard K98k bolt action rifle rest of the war. This is an example of an extremely rare late World War II Fallschirmajagergewehr FG42 paratrooper rifle, with the original Luftwaffe ZF4 sniper scope and mount. It is estimated that only approximately 5,000 were ever manufactured, of which few survived. This example is a mid-production Second Model that has the more horizontal grip with bakelite panels, laminated buttstock, and two-piece wooden fore-end. The receiver is marked: “fzs/FG42/02314", where fzs was the wartime code for Krieghoff.
