When you visit a quite mysterious country for the first time, your first impressions remain deeply imprinted. I cannot forget the start of my first visit to China, in 1977. While on the way to our hotel in the centre of Beijing, in late afternoon, I could observe at leisure the hundreds of cyclists who were surrounding our bus.
