This shows french line infantry (fusiliers and grenadiers) from the Régiment Limousin marching toward its fame at the battle of Villinghausen (July 16th 1761), during the Seven Years War. Although Villinghausen is a French tactical defeat, the regiment Limousin distinguished itself during the encounter.

Röchling was a German illustrator and painter, who lived from 1855 to 1920, whose works often depicted military themes. The illustration here shows the Prussian Grenadiergardebataillon (No. 6) sometimes known as the Potsdam Giants.
The Battle of Fontenoy was fought on May during the War of the Austrian Succession. Advancing to relieve Tournai, the Pragmatic Army met French forces near Fontenoy. In the resulting battle, the French were triumphant.
