Explore Gretel S, Nature Invites and more!

"Everything in nature invites us constantly to be what we are. We are often like rivers: careless and forceful timid and dangerous lucid and muddied eddying gleaming still." - #GretelEhrlich // I just started reading Gretel's "The Solace of Open Spaces." Has anyone else read it? I happened upon it by accident and I'm so glad I did.

I moved to Colorado exactly two years ago. It was necessary at the time but so is being back in Texas right now. So is where you are right now. Now is everything and don't get stuck thinking your past or future are allowed to be part of that more than they should be.

You either go backwards or forwards in life. I'm always going back and forth. Always changing my mind. One thing that is true that I always forget is no matter where I live or travel to I still have to deal with myself. Nature and hard work help me the most with having to live with myself. Hiking alone in snow is something I miss SO MUCH right now. This photo is from one of those hikes in RMNP last year. Since I don't have this right now I've got some decent trails to run here in Texas…

There is definitely something to be said about the inspiration you can find in nature. But it's not everything. It means nothing if you can't find inspiration love and happiness within yourself. Sometimes you need something like nature to show you - but when the beauty goes away and you're left with just you - what holds up? Don't get caught up in quotes by John Muir or another photo of the Milky Way with someone "star-gazing@ (with their headlamp on? Come on - we knows it's all a pose). Use…

Everything you do prepares you for everything you'll do.

Don't forget to take care of you. Whether that means going on a hike taking yourself to a nice dinner or shutting off electronics and reading a book. We all need to recharge so we can thrive and be our best - to ourselves and to others.

My feet are about to take me to some pretty amazing places. However it wouldn't be possible if I didn't believe they could. Whatever it is you're wanting to do - if you believe you can you will. It's a matter of taking that first step...and then another.

Many people ask themselves in a time of celebration and disbelief "how did I get here?" I can empathize with that feeling but I also know how I got here. I'm not scared to give myself some credit because I worked so hard to make my dreams a reality. Nothing landed in my lap and if it appeared like it did it's because I put the effort in somewhere in time. If there is something you want - if there is a very specific life you want to live it's yours. Just get ready to get your ass kicked in an…

Be careful what you ask for. A year ago I decided I wanted to travel. A lot. That happened and still happens. It's not loads of fun all the time but I am incredibly thankful to be able to jump in the car or onto a plane whenever I want for the most part. A year ago I decided I wanted to work for myself. That happened. It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life and the best thing I have ever done in my life. A year ago I wrote in my journal about being "open to moving a lot." I've moved…

I haven't scared myself since this day on this mountain so I think we have a problem or perhaps a solution. Change is the only constant and while that scared me it also shows me that I am alive.
