The miniature shows a young officer with white hair, wearing a blue gold-trimmed coat and white cross-type medal (Order of St. Louis). He commanded a French regiment in the American Revolutionary War in 1780. Housed in an untested gold locket frame with pin back. Sitter information and attribution supplied by a family historian which we are basing this catalog entry on. SIZE: Overall: 3-1/4" x 1-1/2". CONDITION: Very good. 50641-3

A Meissen armorial teabowl from the Foscari service, circa 1740 Painted with the coat-of-arms supported by two putti, in a continuous landscape including kauffahrtei figures and boats, the centre with a landscape panel in puce and a gilt foliate scrollwork border, 7.6cm diam, crossed swords mark in underglaze blue beneath three gold dots. This service was probably supplied to Francesco Foscari (1704-1790), a historian, lawyer and diplomat who served as envoy to Pope Benedict XIV.
