Merle Oberon 1911 – 1979 Anglo-Indian actress that began her career in Britain. After her success, she traveled to the US to make films. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in The Dark Angel. She soon followed this with her most renowned performance in Wuthering Heights. In order to conceal her Indian heritage she maintained she was born in Tasmania, Australia; the year before she died she finally admitted this story was not true.
