Libby Hall, of Hackney in east London, stumbled on a collection of wartime snaps at a market stall which show soldiers posing with dogs (pictured) - kept as pets as well as used as scouts and messengers.

By Paul Croes - I love this photo, the shadows that the photographer has used makes the dog look more alive than 2D. Although, I dislike how the photo is so dark - it creates sort of a depressed look.  The photographer will have used a studio to create this look with studio lighting on the left side of the dog, to create the shadow.
