In 1889, 31 blocks of Seattle, Washington were destroyed in a fire. While city leaders decided to rebuild the city as it was before, the new streets were regraded one to two stories higher than before. The old city is still evident and can be accessed via one of Seattle's great attractions: the underground tour.
