A study done at the University of Texas at Austin shows that insurers are using high out of pocket prescription drug costs to deter chronically ill patients from joining health plans in individual markets. Thus individuals pre existing condition may find it much harder to find a plan that works for them. The problem boils down to risk adjustment and reinsurance which regulate patients for insurers. Expensive patients if adjusted too low run the cost of the insurer.

Its been awhile since Ive had a genuine weird austin experience. But this morning felt like a scene out of the movie Slacker. I was shooting sunrise at the SRV memorial and some guy walks up mumbling something about reptilians. He then proceeds to give an unsolicited speech about how they should have a statue of a hero there like Jim Bowie instead of a drug addict that did an ounce of coke before every show. He repeated this several times and then moved a few feet away to the shore line…

"For as long as she could remember, Vanessa Brewer had her mind set on going to college. The image of herself as a college student appealed to her — independent, intelligent, a young woman full of potential — but it was more than that; it was a chance to rewrite the ending to a family story that went off track 18 years earlier, when Vanessa’s mother, then a high-achieving high-school senior in a small town in Arkansas, became pregnant with Vanessa." A Smart Girl indeed.

"be curious not judgmental." (walt whitman) i love this idea because it can shift negative energy so quickly and profoundly often with very little effort. not only does it become harder to judge other people the more you get to know them but curiosity makes it equally difficult to judge ourselves and the things that we create. i still struggle a lot with the concept of not judging my own feelings particularly ones that i've decided are "bad." for example anger sadness or disappointment…
