Photographer Zhan Youbing captured snapshots of life in the factory. As Laurence Liauw puts it "factory towns are built by and for the migrants". However, what we see in these photographs are the tensions between factory work and life (the front and back-stage). Migrant workers are being submitted to the lifestyle of the factory rather than determining their own terms of interaction with their environment.
