Princess Johanna of Hesse and by Rhine with her uncle and aunt, Prince Ludwig and Princess Margaret, nee the Hon. Margaret Campbell-Geddes, who adopted her after the death of parents.  Sadly, Johanna didn't survive her parents and brothers for long.  She died on 14 June 1939, at 2 1/2, of meningitis.  As her uncle had no children, Johanna's death brought the House of Hesse and by Rhine to an end.

Prince Philip of Hesse-Kassel (1896--1980), 3rd son of Princess Margaret of Prussia.  Philip joined the Nazi party in 1930 and the SA (Stormtroopers) in 1932.  When Hitler came to power Philip was made governor of Hesse-Nassau.  Eventually, Philip fell out with the Nazis who then sent him to a concentration camp in 1944 where he remained until being liberated by US forces.
