Place of Solitude The name of the Hermitage Museum, in St. Petersburg, Russia, came from the French and it means the "place of solitude." This was true when it was the Tsar's private museum, but now it is filled with millions of visitors a year. There are some quiet, elegant corners in the museum, but you really have to seek them out.
Gothic architecture.The greatest number of surviving Gothic buildings are churches, ranging from tiny chapels to large cathedrals, though many have been extended altered in different styles, a large number remain either substantially intact or sympathetically restored, demonstrating the form, character and decoration of Gothic architecture. It is most particularly associated with the great cathedrals of Northern France, England and Spain, with other fine examples occurring across Europe.
