The first official portrait of Herman Goering after he was created Reichsmarschall by Adolf Hitler. The photo, bearing a note in Goering's hand, was shot by Heinrich Hoffmann, Hitler's personal photographer, on July 19, 1940. Goering's figure is duly (and heavily) retouched to make him look thinner and more "marshal-like." His baton can be seen at the West Point Museum.
