Château de Monte-Cristo, France Coincidence? I think not. I wonder if this is what inspired Dumas. Even though the real Athos (musketeer who inspired character) was from Gascony, the La Fere Dumas used is in Picardy. He saw a reference that Anne of Austria once stayed in Chateau La Fere (in the Ainse Region of Picardy not the Athos-Aspis Region of Bearn, Gascony) I know because I've been doing a Lot of research of late. May have also helped that Dumas was born in Ainse.
