Gnowee is a Wotjobaluk (Aboriginal people of south-eastern Australia) Solar Goddess whose torch is the Sun. She once a woman who lived when it was eternally dark. One day she left her little boy sleeping while she went out to dig for yams. Gnowee wandered so far that she could not find her little boy, so she climbed into the sky with her great bark torch (Sun) to get a clearer view.
Indigenous Australians. In the US and Canada, Indigenous people are given official recognition as 'first nations' people. In New Zealand, they have Waitangi Day. In Australia they are marginalised by the government and given intervention after intervention rather than real solutions.
