Antique Victorian 12k gold rectangular form brooch decorated with black enamel and foliate pattern on rims. The centerpiece features two-tone plaited hair lock under glass front. The brooch has engraved monogram "ENG" on back and a tiny bail, so it's possible to wear it like a pendant. Hair jewelry was the height of the romanticism and sentiment that characterized the Victorian era. Some pieces were done as mourning pieces or "momento mori" ("remember you must die").
