Norma Des Cygne Smallwood, a full blood Cherokee, from Tulsa, OK. While a student at Oklahoma State Univ., she entered the Miss America pageant in 1926. She was crowned the first Native American to win the title. Her keen business sense during her reign caused her to earn more than either Babe Ruth or the president of the U.S.A. at the time.
