Un nuevo instrumento, acoplado al telescopio de 12 metros APEX (Atacama Pathfinder Experiment), instalado a 5.000 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en la Cordillera de los Andes (Chile), está abriendo una ventana a un universo previamente inexplorado. SEPIA (siglas de Swedish–ESO PI receiver for APEX ) detecta las débiles señales del agua y de otras moléculas dentro de la Vía Láctea, en otras galaxias cercanas y en el universo temprano.
