This gun was made in Seringapatam, the capital of Tipu Sultan (1750–1799), the ruler of Mysore. Tipu's armories employed many European craftsmen, and his firearms reflect the most up to date technology
A ball over barrel muzzle loading air rifle, by I. C. SAPS, Berlin inscribed on the lock plate, 29in. octagonal re-browned two-groove rifled barrel with later ramrod under, fitted plain brass cover plate on left hand side, trigger guard missing, fitted cocking hammer, with lightly carved walnut stock (fore-end restored), fitted brass butt plate and tang, 43in. long overall.
