A narrow court of the 1930's, as pictured, was typical of working class housing in the Scotland Road area of Liverpool in the early 1900's. Such a court would usually contain six houses with a frontage of only ten feet. In such cramped accommodation there were frequently as many as sixty people in a single court all using the one tap.
