Kenneth Noland, That, 1958-1959, acrylic. I love Noland's 'target' paintings but I don't quite know why. I was reminded of them recently when I bought a set of early Beethoven string quartets played on period instruments by the Quatuor Mosaiques. Each CD cover is a Noland. Marvellous. What have they got to do with Beethoven? I'm not sure, but I still love them.
