The 1st of 3 paintings for the “Tiny Treasures” Exhibition at the Artb. Gallery in Bellville. Each picture has to be 20x15 cm (including the frame), so it was quite a challenge working in pastel at such a small scale. The theme this year is “Homeland” and for me there is nothing more homeland than these tiny treasures that call my corner of Africa home. The bonthoutkapper (acacia pied barbet) is allusive bird, seldom seen but makes his presence known with his sharp call. Artist: Michael…

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies" Table Mountain is flanked by two peaks. On the right is Lion’s head. Behind the lion is a series of cliffs called the Twelve Apostles. On the opposite [left] side is Devil’s Peak. If the lion represents Jesus as the Lion of Judah, surrounded by his twelve apostles, then indeed King David’s song is revealed here: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of of my enemies”. Soft pastel on paper, 20.5x16 cm. Artist: Michael…

Talitha Koum - Yeshua (Jesus) took the hand of the dead girl and said to her, "Talitha koum" [meaning "little one, arise"]. I have allowed the words He spoke to evoke the idea of his talith, or prayer shawl, having played a part in this miracle as it had moments before with the healing of the lady who grasped the tzitzit fringe on the corners of His talith - Matthew 5. Original soft pastel on pastel board - A4 (30x21 cm) Artist: Michael page
