A newspaper report of First AIF Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel David John Garland's address to the congregation of St James's Church of England, James Street, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, on the evening of 21 October 1915. Fr Garland mentions life for the new recruits in Enoggera training camp, Brisbane, and on the issue of conscription. The article appeared on page 4, of the “Darling Downs Gazette and Telegraph” (Toowoomba) of 22 October 1915.

Gasworks. From 1878, the Toowoomba Gas and Coke Company supplied gas to the city from it's original headquarters in Neil St. In addition to supplying gas for heating and cooking, it provided light and in the first year this included 25 street lamps. The last gaslights were removed from Toowoomba streets in 1914. In 1890 a gas holder was purchased from the Brisbane Gas Company and erected on site and in 1930 the large gasometer, which became a feature of the Toowoomba skyline, was…
