The Katyn massacre was a mass execution of Polish lawyers, doctors, teachers, professors, writers, generals and many officers carried out by (NKVD), the Soviet secret police, in April and May 1940. This  was approved and signed by the Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin. The number of victims was about 22,000. They were murdered in the Katyn Forest in Russia, the Kalinin and Kharkiv prisons and elsewhere. My Father's brother was a Polish officer murdered at Kharkiv-Tadeusz Kolodziejek
