Angels are among us. This trio of beautiful stone angelic figures represents reverence in the downcast eyes, celebration in the wreaths on the heads, modesty in the veiled faces. The demeanour suggests introspection, prayer and meditation.
This is an interesting exploration of the human form. The veiling of the statues adds an element of mystery and curiosity. We are only able to see what is outside the body, and the face of the subject in question remains hidden. It is a portrait of something and nothing.
Zentralfriedhof statue - It blows my mind that this is a piece of stone and it still looks like a veil covering a face. Many years ago it was something of a test of skill for a sculptor to create a veiled face. This is one of the absolute best.
