Grace McDaniels (1888-1958) was known as the 'Mule Faced Woman' due to a severe facial deformity known as Sturge-Weber syndrome. She was known to her fellow circus workers as a kindly woman who loved to cook and sew. She was raped by a drunken worker and gave birth to son Elmer, shown here. Elmer was an alcoholic who stole from and mistreated his mother. They both died in 1958.
