I adore this author. In part it's bc the fictional Zanesville IL has so much in common with the real Zanesville OH in that time period. But Beard is a great writer no matter what the subject. Check out The Boys of My Youth, too, a wonderful book of her essays.
Publisher comments: "Discover the extraordinary island of Nus Tarian, in Indonesia, where everyday reality contains terrifying, inexplicable, and miraculous phenomena." No matter whether you believe everything that is described here, you must enjoy the poetry of the writing. A beautiful book. More about the author here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyall_Watson
A book about the meanings behind many classic novels' dedications. I found this very intriguing as I myself often wonder about the people who many books are written for/dedicated to. This book spans classic literature from the 1800s - early 2000s (if I remember correctly). From Moby Dick to Schindler's List. If you'd like to know extra information behind the lives of famous authors and/or some of literature's most classic novels, this book is definitely for you.
