Cuscuta - a vampire plant that feeds off its host The one hundred and seventy known species of Cuscuta inhabit mostly the tropical parts of the world with only a few present in Europe. They are the only species of parasitic plant which belong to the Convolvulaceae (or morning-glory family of plants). Some species, such as the Cuscuta epilinum, feeds only on flax plants where as others, such as the Cuscuta epithymum, will feed on nettles, heather, gorse and clover.
