El fundador de la fenomenología, el filósofo alemán Edmund Husserl, introdujo este término en su libro Ideas. Introducción general a la fenomenología pura (1913). Los primeros seguidores de Husserl, como el filósofo alemán Max Scheler, influenciado por su libro anterior, Investigaciones lógicas (1900-1901), proclamaron que el cometido de la fenomenología es estudiar las esencias de las cosas y la de las emociones.

LOGIC: Rudolf Carnap,  German-born philosopher and naturalized U.S. citizen,  a leading exponent of logical positivism and one of the major philosophers of the twentieth century. He made significant contributions to philosophy of science,   philosophy of language, the  theory of probability, and classical, inductive and modal logic.  He rejected metaphysics   as meaningless because metaphysical statements cannot be proved or disproved by experience.
