Gen. Jacques Massu (Airborne) distinguished himself during WW2, in Indochina, and during the Algerian War. He rose to command the French Forces in Germany. Massu was accused by Algerian fighters of endorsing the use of torture by his parachutists during the Algerian War. Massu accepted full responsibility for such practices claiming that they were necessary. He died in his home of Gâtinaise Conflans-sur-Loing in 2002, aged 94.
