Nottoway Plantation, White Castle, LA. Completed in 1859 for the John Hampden Randolph family by architect Henry Howard in the Greek Revival + Italianate style for which he was renowned. John was born in Virginia, 24.3.1813 + married his wife Emily Jane Liddell, 14.12.1837. They had 11 children. Randolph devoted most of his time to the plantation + managing the slaves. Nottoway survived the American Civil War with only a single grapeshot to the far left column. Listed NRHP 1980.
Located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Kenmore is a plantation house and the only surviving structure from the Kenmore plantation. The house was completed in 1776 for Betty Washington Lewis, the sister of George Washington, and for her husband Fielding Lewis. The plantation originally grew tobacco, wheat, and corn. In later years, the plantation served an active role in the civil war, serving as a makeshift military hospital.
