Maine- Baxter State Park- the trail up to Mt Katahdin, is challenging. As many of the trails here, it's straight up a steep creek bed for much of it. This is about halfway up. (This is not the famous Chimney Pond that lies right in front of the mountain.) A short walk down this path lead to this amazing sight. On this hot afternoon I waded waist deep in this clear beautiful lake. The water was about 40 degrees! The summit is the beginning of the Appalachian Trail.
